Board of Trustees approves plan to renovate Samford Park

Thirty descendants of the Toomer's Oaks will be planted in Samford Park in 2016. The Auburn University Board of Trustees met Friday, Nov. 7, and approved a the second phase of a plan to renovate Samford Park including the planting of 30 trees along the sidewalk from Toomer's Corner to Samford Hall.

Sentencing delayed for University Heights shooter

Sentencing for the University Heights shooter has been delayed until Jan. 7. Desmonte Leonard will now find out if he will spend the rest of his life in prison or be sentenced to death next year, according to an Opelika-Auburn News report.

Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall named a semi-finalist for Davey O'Brien Award

Auburn's star quarterback Nick Marshall has been announced as a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award. The award is meant to honor the nation's top quarterback. Marshall is one of 16 finalists for the award, and one of four quarterbacks from the SEC. In addition to Marshall, the SEC semifinalists include: Bo Wallace (Ole Miss), Blake Sims (Alabama), and Dak Prescott (Mississippi State). Marshall has thrown for 1357 yards in eight games which gives him an average of 169.6 yards per game. He has 13 passing touchdowns to only four interceptions on the year.

New Auburn City Council takes oath of office

Newly elected council members of the Auburn City Council took their oath office for the 2014-2018 term on Monday, Nov. 3 at the Auburn City Council chambers. After being sworn in, the new City Council elected Ron Anders as the new mayor pro tempore to serve as head of the council if Mayor Bill Ham is absent.

Alabama not included in same-sex marriage legalization

While the rest of the country continues to pass progressive legislation providing same-sex couples the legal and economic rights heterosexual couples have, much of the South and Midwest continue to oppose such measures. Many of those states contain the highest populations of same-sex couples, Mississippi being the highest and Alabama ranking in the top 10.

Auburn moves up to third in the AP Poll, Amway Coaches Poll

Following a 35-31 over Ole Miss in Oxford Saturday, Auburn moved up to number 3 in this week's AP Poll and Amway Coaches Poll. That's up one spot from last week. The Tigers move ahead of archival Alabama, who dropped to 4 after a bye. Currently, the Tigers also hold the number 3 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings as well as the Amway Coaches Poll. The CFP rankings for this week will be released Tuesday night.

Auburn gets third spot in first CFB Playoff rankings

The first ever College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday night and Auburn took the third spot. Filling out the rest of the top four were Mississippi State at 1, Florida State at 2 and Ole Miss at 4. So, if the season were to end today, Auburn would be participating in this year's inaugural playoff by way of a match up against last year's national championship opponent Florida State.
