As announced Thursday, June 4, sophomore pitcher Cole Lipscomb has been named a second-team Capital One Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Lipscomb excelled on and off the field in 2015, posting an 8-2 record with a 2.53 ERA while maintaining a 3.76 GPA in finance. “I am extremely proud of Cole and all the hard work he puts in as a student-athlete,” coach Sunny Golloway said.
The 8th-ranked men’s golf team finished its season by placing 12th in the NCAA Championship at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida on Monday, June 1. The finish was the fourth-best in school history at the NCAA Championship.
The Tigers picked up their seventh commitment for 2016 on Wednesday afternoon as quarterback Ervin “Woody” Barrett pledged to Auburn during a ceremony at his school. A 6-foot-2, 219-pound Orlando, Florida native, Barrett is the No.80 prospect in the ESPN 300 and chose the Plains over Oregon and state-rival Alabama.
Fans will have to wait until next spring to see another Auburn team run onto the diamond. Hours after the Tigers’ softball team was eliminated from the Women’s College World Series, the baseball team fell to College of Charleston, 3-2, on Sunday, May 31, in Tallahassee, Florida. The loss eliminated the Tigers from the NCAA Tournament. Both teams went down in order in the first inning, and a rain delay halted the game before the second inning could begin. The game was suspended and the teams resumed play after a six hour and twenty minute delay. Charleston didn’t take long to break the scoreless tie. In the Cougars’ first at-bat following the delay, Nick Pappas hit a two-run home run off Auburn’s starting pitcher Dalton Rentz to give Charleston a 1-0 lead. Auburn fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, starting when Charleston starter Nathan Helvey issued a one-out walk to Daniel Robert, and Robert advanced to second on Anfernee Grier’s infield single.
The Auburn men’s golf team avoided elimination early Monday morning, June 1, at the NCAA Championship in Bradenton, Florida. The Tigers were forced to finish the third round of the tournament on Monday morning after play was suspended Sunday, May 31, because of inclement weather. Freshman Ben Schlottman shot even par for the second consecutive day to lead the Tigers in the last round of stroke play. Half of the 30 teams in the field were cut after three rounds of stroke play at The Concession Golf Club. After the first three rounds, Auburn was tied for 12th, which earned the Tigers a spot in the final round of stroke play. The fourth round will start Monday, when Auburn tees off at 9 am CST on the 10th hole. If the Tigers finish in the top eight teams after the final round of play, they will advance to the match play portion of the tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 2-3.
Following up a nail-biting win over UCLA Saturday night, May 30, the Tigers lost their chances of advancing in the Women’s College World Series against Florida, losing 3-2 Sunday afternoon, May 31. Regardless of this loss, the team has made it a season to remember, claiming two All-Americans in Kasey Cooper and Emily Carosone on top of finishing in fifth for the most executed double plays (41) on defense and ranking within the top ten, eventually climbing to No.
Track and field concluded the final day of the NCAA East Preliminaries Saturday, May 30, on a strong note after qualifying five individuals and one relay for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Tigers will send a total of seven individuals and one relay to Nationals, June 10-13, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
On a day that is often dubbed “Elimination Saturday” in the Women’s College World Series, Auburn did the one thing it had to do: survive and advance. AuburnSports.com confirmed Saturday morning, May 30 that 6-foot, 180-pound Elijah Stove has committed to join the 2016 Auburn football roster over Big Cat Weekend. Stove is Auburn’s seventh commitment and first receiver for the 2016 class, among the others, such as Stephen Davis Jr.

Assistant coach Tony Jones has resigned to pursue other coaching opportunities, while current assistant coach Chuck Person, and staff members Todd Golden and Steven Pearl have each been promoted. Person has been elevated to associate head coach and has been signed to a three-year contract.
The Dothan Eagle reported Thursday night, May 28, former Auburn assistant coach under Pat Dye, Bud Casey, died in long-term care after suffering a stroke on April 4. The Dothan native graduated from Dothan High School in 1958 and joined the Crimson Tide under Bear Bryant’s first recruiting class as an All-American.
In their first game in the Women’s College World Series in program history, the Tigers lost to LSU- 6-1 on Thursday afternoon, May 28. Auburn’s potent offense was kept quiet for the majority of the game by LSU’s starting pitcher, Carley Hoover.

The Tigers are off to a good start in Oklahoma City as Kasey Cooper and Emily Carosone were welcomed with All-American recognition Wednesday afternoon, May 27. The Tigers were two of six players who received the honor alongside UCLA’s Ally Carda and Alexis Bennett, Oklahoma’s Lauren Chamberlain and Oregon’s Cheridan Hawkins. Cooper said it was an honor to be sitting next to the five other All-Americans. “For me I think it’s cool because I watched Oklahoma and Alabama play in the championship sitting at home in high school.” Cooper said.
