Thanks to frats for military help

I wanted to recognize and thank four fraternities in Auburn that recognized the importance of supporting our military by planning "Heroes Week."

Sigma Nu, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Kappa Alpha and Beta Theta Pi donated all proceeds to this week of philanthropy to Gameday For Heroes, a not-for-profit organization founded by the Columbus-Phenix City Auburn Club in 2009.

In 2011, Gameday For Heroes, which provides free tickets for college football, baseball, basketball, hockey and other sports to wounded, active duty and veterans, went national and grew from Auburn games to add 27 colleges and provide approximately 1,700 tickets. These young men organized a week of activities, had Gameday For Heroes T-shirts made and invited us to the Sigma Nu house to receive the donation check.

My husband and I, both Auburn alumni, received a warm welcome from the members and were proud that each of them showed an interest in learning how they can help support our military. I have never been more proud to be an Auburn Tiger!

A special thanks goes to John Morvant (SAE), Trey Oliver (Sigma Nu), Max Shoemaker (KA) and Lucas Asbury (Beta) who organized "Heroes Week."

We look forward to this becoming an annual event showing our military we support their efforts to keep us safe. For more information on Gameday For Heroes please go to gamedayforheroes.org or and like us on Facebook. Thank you again for your support and War Eagle!
