Having grown up in a small town in Alabama, I am incredibly familiar with Confederate imagery. Most prominent among these images was the Confederate flag. I've seen entire stores dedicated to this flag. I’ve seen it flapping on the back of lifted trucks and hung in the rooms of friends. I’ve seen it on front license plates and on hats, jackets, boots and so on.

On Oct. 15, the first annual in-person Hey Day Social was held at Hey Day Market and the Greenspace. Although Hey Day is a longstanding tradition for the University, this new event sought to unite the entire Auburn community, bringing together not only current students and faculty but also alumni, family members and residents as well.

Auburn volleyball put up a strong fight against nationally ranked Missouri in an exciting four-set match Sunday, but ultimately fell short, 3-1 (23-25, 32-30, 25-17, 25-23). The Tigers started strong by taking the first set, but Missouri responded with increased intensity to win the remaining three.

On Oct. 15, 2025, the preliminary hearing for the murder of retired Auburn University professor, Dr. Julie Gard Schnuelle, was held at the Lee County Justice Center. The hearing determined that there was enough evidence against the accused, Harold Rashad Dabney III, to move to a grand jury. While the case is still in its early stages, lots of new information surrounding the case emerged in the hearing.

The Auburn Tigers traveled to Tuscaloosa this past weekend to compete in the ITA Southern Regional Championships hosted by the University of Alabama. The Tiger doubles team, composed of Joey Phillips and Nicholas Heng, advanced to the semifinals. Additionally, singles players Billy Blaydes and Hamza Nasridinov each reached the quarterfinals round.

PawPrint Auburn University Organization is an official university club that 3D prints orthotics and braces for dogs in need. The organization meets on Mondays or Tuesdays at 6 p.m. in ACLC to collaborate with fellow dog-lovers within the club and partner with local animal shelters.

Joshua Race, an Auburn grad student and full-time band director in Fountain, Colorado, was recently named to Yamaha's 40 Under 40, a list that recognizes young music educators for their outstanding work. Currently enrolled online at Auburn University pursuing his specialist in education degree, Race spends most of his time teaching his band students using metacognitive strategies.

On Oct. 3, Taylor Swift released her twelfth original studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl” (TLOAS). Fans were ecstatic, as this would be the first album dedicated to Travis Kelce, Swift’s fiancé and National Football League star. However, those dedicated fans, including myself, would be sorely disappointed.

On Oct. 13, 2025, Auburn University reported a gas leak near the Gogue Performing Arts Center. The notice was sent out at 9:08 a.m. in an AU Alert, which provided instructions and more details about the leak.

On a night that ended in heartbreak and disappointment for many Auburn fans at Jordan-Hare, one bright spot came during halftime of the Deep South's oldest rivalry. Cam Newton, the legendary Auburn quarterback and 2010 Heisman winner, had his iconic number 2 jersey retired by the Tigers on Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 88,043 fans.
