The Auburn Police Division arrested George W. Barton and charged him with first-degree domestic violence and aggravated child abuse Sunday, June 7, according to a news release by the APD. APD responded to a call to assist paramedics at a residence on the 1900 block of Rosie Street at noon Sunday.

Auburn student and his family receive home through Homes for Our Troops

Sgt. Josh Wetzel, senior in marketing, his wife Paige Wetzel and his daughter Harper Wetzel ceremonially broke ground on their new home in front of a crowd on a hot June 6 morning in front of a cheering, flag-waving crowd. Josh and his family are building a house with the help of Homes for Our Troops, an organization that builds specially adapted homes for wounded veterans injured after 9/11. Josh lost both his legs May 31, 2012, when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) in Afghanistan.

Concerns surrounding smoke from new Auburn High site expressed

An Auburn citizen raised concerns about smoke from the fires used to clear land for the new Auburn High School at the June 1 City Council meeting. Hugh O'Donnell, who lives on Katie Lane near the planned site of the new school, said smoke from the burn piles is filling his neighborhood, making it hard to live and work there. "We were actually covered by smoke for the duration of a day," O'Donnell said.

4-hour time limit set for public use in Gay Street parking deck

Construction has been the theme for Auburn this summer. With the Toomer’s Corner intersection blocked off, there is a lack of parking downtown. Since construction started, the Gay Street parking deck has been opened for public use according to Charles Duggan, city manager for the City of Auburn. According to David Dorton, public affairs director for the City of Auburn, there is a four-hour time limit for the deck and a twohour limit on the street.
