The Auburn Plainsman

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Response to Auburn Family column

Dear Kris; I enjoyed reading your recent well written plainsman article about the most often used term “the Auburn Family”. While I agree whole you hardly that the bricks and mortar that make up Auburn University are not a true family, many of the people that make up the University can be.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Response to 'War Equal'

I was disappointed, yet not surprised, that the opinions board of The Plainsman voiced their support of Judge Granade's recent attempt to redefine marriage. The view of the staff reflected the popular sentiment that the movement to legalize gay marriage is grounded in equality, but, after just a bit of thought, one can clearly see that same-sex "marriages" and marriages between one man and one woman are intrinsically, by the very essence of what they are, unequal.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Miscommunication in Iron Bowl chanting

I am a student at the University of Alabama and was in attendance at the Iron Bowl game this weekend. After leaving the game I saw on social media, particularly Auburn fanpages, that many people were posting that Alabama's student section were chanting "Lutzie's dead." I was appalled upon reading this.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: When you don't choose to be homeless

In the Oct. 30 edition of The Plainsman, Becky Hardy, editor-in-chief, profiled Patton Chambers, a student who is "homeless by choice." From my understanding of the article, Chambers relies entirely on University facilities for typical activities of daily living; he sleeps in the library nightly, he eats minimal meals like oatmeal and peanuts and he carries his belongings in a heavy-duty backpack.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Response to Emma Watson

Main idea: Though I agree with Emma Watson, a certain understanding of feminism can lead to a breakdown of the wait 'til marriage before having sex rule, which hurts our ability to have a long-term, fulfilling, committed love relationships. I'm not backlashing against the movement for sure; I'm in favor of it. I do believe that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities, and therefore, I am a feminist.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Lessons have been learned

One thing we pride ourselves in as a University and a student body is being the "Auburn Family." With that in mind, it's sad to see how The Plainsman has abused their voice as the major media outlet on campus to excessively shame fellow students with no regard to the countless hours of work they put in on a weekly basis to better this University.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Be aggressive, but be fair

I am writing in response to the SGA case published in the 10/23 edition. I went back to read the original editorial that this whole thing is centered around, about the new Security Shuttle system, and I see where the blame should really lie.

LETTER: Welcome back from 2014-15 SGA President Logan Powell

This summer was a productive time for our team - we have worked to create a comprehensive feedback system to hear your concerns in all areas of campus life, to organize a more efficient late night transportation system, to continually improve your game day experience, and to ensure that international students at Auburn are receiving a proper orientation, among other projects, programs and initiatives.
