As oil continues to leak into the Gulf of Mexico, industry insiders and outsiders alike are finding ways to help clean up the spill with unusual ideas and products. From granules that can soak up ten times their weight in oil to hair and fur trimmings, various methods are being used to clean up oil in the water and on land.

Auburn Police Seek Help Identifying a Suspect

The Auburn Police Division is seeking help identifying a person in connection with two separate harassment charges filed last night, according to a news release. Both incidents took place in the vicinity of Cox Street and Genalda Avenue. Officers searched the area, but were unable to find a suspect.

Grant Awarded to the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center

Through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) and Gov. Bob Riley, the Domestic Violence Intervention Center in Opelika was awarded a $10,000 grant.According to the press release provided by ADECA, the Domestic Violence Intervention Center in Opelika supports victims of domestic violence and assault in five east Alabama counties.

Auburn residents gathered on Wednesday for the long-awaited opening of Auburn's first Publix."I'd rather shop at Publix than any other grocery store because there is a wider selection of products here, they have really good deals and employees are willing to help," said student Danielle Ray.

Auburn Train Depot Listed as a Place in Peril

The Auburn Train Depot, built in 1904, has been placed on the list of Alabama's most endangered historical sites. Since 1994, theAlabama Historical Commission (AHC) and the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation have sponsored the Places in Peril program. The program's goal is to make communities aware of historic buildings, like the AuburnTrain Depot, that have been condemned and neglected.
