Fielding errors and pitching contributed to Auburn’s 5-1 loss to No. 12 Kentucky on Sunday, as the Wildcats avoided a sweep in Auburn. “Our defense did not give us an opportunity to win the game," Dean said.
Auburn softball claimed its second consecutive series win with a 4-2 victory over No. 12 Kentucky Saturday at Jane B. Moore Field. “Great performance from Maddie,” said head coach Mickey Dean.
Auburn’s four-run first inning proved to be the difference-maker in its upset over No. 12 Kentucky on Friday night. “It’s huge moving forward,” Rivera said about the win. “Just got to take every game game-by-game and every pitch pitch-by-pitch and come out and just dominate.”
Auburn has now won three in a row and four of its last five games, gaining momentum towards its upcoming series with No. 12 Kentucky.
Behind Maddie Penta’s dominant outing and a trio of Auburn hits in the bottom of the third, the Tigers defeated Alabama State 5-0.
Auburn softball won its first SEC series of the season with a 3-1 win over Texas A&M on Sunday. "Today, we had some nice timely hits," Dean said. "We made them make adjustments and that opened some things up for us."
Auburn bounced back from a three-game skid with a 6-2 win over No. 25 Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, on Friday. “It was a good start,” said head coach Mickey Dean. "Our first three or four batters did a real nice of working the counts and seeing a lot of pitches."
Auburn was unable to avoid the sweep against Arkansas, losing 2-0 on Saturday. “You gotta be clean against a top-10 team.” said head coach Mickey Dean. “It’s highly unlikely that you’ll beat a top-10 team with three [errors].”
Auburn softball lost 3-0 on Friday to Arkansas. Despite the loss, pitcher Shelby Lowe finished the game with 12 strikeouts, moving her total to 111 on the season, good for fourth-most by an Auburn freshman.
“I knew Maddie was going to be limited on the number of pitches,” Dean said. “I knew that even before I started her today or made that decision. So when we reached that point, that’s when I made the decision to take her out.”
Auburn pitcher Shelby Lowe was named SEC Freshman of the Week after pitching the Tigers to a 3-0 shutout win against No. 18 Missouri on Sunday, the SEC announced on Tuesday.
In a Sunday showdown, Auburn took home a 3-0 win over Missouri thanks to a strong outing by freshman Shelby Lowe. "We had really good defense. We had excellent at bats and timely hits to put runs on the board," Dean said.
“We just have to put it all together,” Dean said. “Our defense was shaky at the beginning. It was a tough day for the pitchers. We gave up seven walks and a home run. We’ve got to be sharper there.”
No. 24 Auburn came up short on the road against No. 18 Missouri in a 2-1 extra-innings loss on Friday. "Each team had a home run," Dean said. "Each team had great pitching. Each team had great defense. The difference is that they moved one runner, she scored. We didn’t move any.”
Auburn snapped its five-game losing streak on Sunday with a pair of come-from-behind wins at Jane B. Moore Field. "Today was very important," said Tyler King. "We knew we needed to bounce back. We had a few things in mind that we needed to work on, and I think we successfully achieved those today."

After positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing within the Charlotte program, Auburn softball has added No. 13 Florida State to this weekend's schedule, the program announced in a release on Thursday.
Auburn softball will have to wait a little longer for its next game as Wednesday's contest against Alabama State has been canceled because of forecasted severe weather.
