In front of a crowd of 62,000, Auburn’s A Day game provided a solid prediction of how the fall would unfold for the Tigers, making apparent strides both offensively and on defense. With 225 passing yards and two touchdowns, junior Jeremy Johnson took the spotlight as quarterback for this year’s scrimmage and led the starting team to a 24-14 win. Sean White at QB made for a few short completed passes, but no play action made the top highlights above Johnson.
After two seasons of sitting behind Nick Marshall, Jeremy Johnson has had plenty of time to hone his skills behind closed doors. Fans got a chance to see how capable Johnson is of leading the offense in the first half against Arkansas in 2014, when Marshall was suspended, but Johnson was still always going to be the backup. Now as the presumed starter, Johnson will have no trouble at all leading the team if his play during A-Day is any indication. Johnson attempted 22 passes—all in the first half—and connected on 14, for 252 yards and a pair of scores, leading Team Auburn to a 24-14 win.
In the race for running back, Saturday’s A Day scrimmage highlighted the likes of Roc Thomas, who carried for 62 yards and made the game’s first touchdown run under quarterback Jeremy Johnson. “I think I did pretty well,” Thomas said.

From starting quarterback on a 3-9 team in 2012 to a backup on an SEC championship team, Wallace has moved down the line of scrimmage and become a wide receiver in his final year. “It was really a personal decision for me,” Wallace said.
Although Auburn left 12 runners stranded, starting pitcher Cole Lipscomp led the Tigers to a 3-1 victory over Ole Miss Friday, April 17 at Plainsman Park. In Auburn’s first Friday win over Ole Miss since 2011, the redshirt sophomore recorded career-highs across the board.
In an upset for the Aggies, No. 5 Auburn Equestrian triumphed 9-6 in Waco, Texas and will proceed to the semifinals Saturday morning at 8:30, starting with a meet against the Georgia Bulldogs. “We were strong against Georgia at SECs in western and the way our hunt seat kids are riding, we should be in good shape tomorrow.” Head coach Greg Williams said.
After a thirty-minute rain delay, a sold out crowd watched as the Crimson Tide defeated the Tigers on their home field, 6-0 in the first game of the rivalry series, Aril 17. For only the second time in program history, No. 8 Auburn gymnastics advanced to the NCAA Super Six by placing third in their semifinal with a 197.075, a program record score at Nationals and the sixth-highest score in program history. The top three of the six teams competing would advance to the next round, and Auburn’s third place finish was just enough. No.1 Oklahoma placed first at 197.400, No.
It’s a game of inches that’s won in the trenches. Those football clichés are about as old as the game itself, but they hold true nonetheless.
Last year’s Auburn team struggled to get to the quarterback. The leader in sacks among defensive linemen, DeVonte Lambert, is gone along with Gabe Wright and Angelo Blackson. Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Dontavius Russell will look to make those players’ departures the opportunity he’s waited a year for a shot at. “Last year was difficult because I felt like I had the ability to play,” Russell said.
Gone are Cameron Artis-Payne and Corey Grant, two senior running backs with NFL aspirations. Fighting for their places are rising sophomore Roc Thomas, junior Peyton Barber and junior JUCO transfer Jovon Robinson. Although Barber has the most experience in Gus Malzahn’s offense, Robinson is viewed as the frontrunner for the spot leading up to A-Day.
It’s been a long ride for Shon Coleman. After being diagnosed with leukemia in the spring of 2010, Coleman was cleared for contact by doctors at the end of spring practice in 2012, but was redshirted that fall.
Driving down College Street on A-Day 2013 was a tall task. “What are all these people were here for?” an out-of-town friend asked me.
