MLK Week: Trooper Taylor Recalls His Heritage

For Auburn wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor, commitment to Auburn football doesn't stop for a federal holiday.While the rest of town slept in Monday morning, he was on the road recruiting.Taylor said he is aware coaching isn't a regular job with regular hours.However, Taylor said traveling does not take away from the importance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Auburn Gymnastics Flips for the Cure

No. 9 Auburn Gymnastics lost to No. 2 Oklahoma in a close 196.300-195.325 match Friday night at Beard-Eaves Coliseum.A crowd of 5,750 fans cheered as both teams sported pink leotards to battle breast cancer during the annual "Flip for the Cure" meet."By no means were we the best we could be, but we did better than we did last week," said head coach Jeff Thompson.

In the past 11 years, Auburn Gymnastics head coach Jeff Thompson has led the Tigers to one NCAA national championship game appearance, seven NCAA regional championships and has led individual women to nine NCAA championship appearances.He has also been SEC Coach of the Year twice.

Men's Lacrosse Prepares to Face-off in Spring 2010

The Auburn University Men's Lacrosse club has begun practice in preparation to build on last year's undefeated regular season.Junior midfielder Anthony Generotti said he thinks there's not as much pressure this season because of the undefeated season."I feel that there is a fair amount of pressure every season, we have been a contender for the SELC title for the past few years and definitely have a target on our backs," Generotti said.Despite the perfect regular season, the Tigers fell to Florida State University in the SELC tournament and failed to reach the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association tournament.Junior goaltender Alex Barnes said losing in the SELC semifinals last season shouldn't have an effect on this season's team."Losing is never fun, but I'm not thinking about that," Barnes said.

The Auburn Women's Lacrosse club opens its season Saturday by traveling to Gainesville, Fla., to match up against the University of Florida and the University of Miami."Florida teams have been very big struggles for us in the past," said co-captain junior Katie Backer.

Keke Carrier named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week

Keshonda Raquel Carrier, also known as KeKe, has been a huge asset to the Auburn Women's Basketball team for the past four years.Born in Lake Charles, La., the Auburn center was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week at the beginning of the month.She is one of the first Auburn Basketball players to earn this award."I really like playing in the SEC," Carrier said.

Women's Basketball Falls to USC, Looks Forward to Vandy

The Auburn Women's Basketball team (11-7, 2-3 SEC) hit the road Sunday for an SEC match up against South Carolina (10-7, 3-2 SEC), but poor shooting by the Tigers contributed to a 63-49 loss.Senior center KeKe Carrier led Auburn with 14 points and junior guard Alli Smalley finished with 12.USC held Auburn to 39.6 percent from the field.

Auburn Softball Prepares for 2010 Campaign

After earning back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances the last two seasons, the Auburn Softball team will look to build on that success in 2010.The Tigers posted a 30-29 record in 2009 and captured a berth in the NCAA Atlanta Regional before being eliminated with a 5-0 loss to Boston University on the final day of regional play.A new spring means a fresh start for the Tigers, and last season's early postseason exit has served as motivation for the 2010 season."Last year, we got pretty far into a regional, but we should've gotten further," said senior pitcher Anna Thompson.

The Auburn Baseball team is gearing up for the spring 2010 season, coming off a 31-25 (11-19 SEC) 2009 season.Junior Hunter Morris is a power hitter coming back this season with experience."We have a good group of older guys, a lot of leadership coming back this year," Morris said.

Auburn Triumphs Over Northwestern in Outback Bowl

In what was arguably one of the most exciting Bowl games of the season, it was Auburn (8-5) do the proper record SEC, whatever that came out on top with a 38-35 overtime thrillerover the Northwestern University Wildcats (8-5) in Raymond James Stadium."People certainly got their money's worth," said Auburn head coach Gene Chizik. "I've been in some wild games, ones that come down to the end numerous times; games where you don't know what is happening. Was he down? Was he not down? This was certainly one of them."

Auburn Bass Fishing Earns 2nd in Thanksgiving Tournament

For most, fishing is just a relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon.The Auburn Bass Fishing Club has a bit more invested in the relaxing activity.Spending the first weekend of Thanksgiving break in Sanford, Fla., the bass fishing club fought for fish and respect in the National Guard FLW College Fishing Southeast Regional on Lake Monroe.They got both.The club had two teams finish in the top five, qualifying them for the national tournament in Knoxville, April 10-12."We did an amazing job," said Richard Peek, recent Auburn graduate and angler in the club.
