Wade Benson has been coaching volleyball for more than 20 years. As head coach of the women's volleyball team at Auburn, he and his staff bring a lot of experience and passion to the game."Speaking for everybody, I can tell you that we really enjoy Auburn as a school and as an area to live and raise a family," Benson said.
The time of Ben Obomanu, Devin Aromashodu, and Courtney Taylor, has long come and gone, and it's time for Auburn to forget about past struggles.Players said they were excited about the arrival of wide receiver coach Trooper Taylor, who they said instilled new life into the wide receiver group."It is not important what was said or done last season, it is all about what we have now., Taylor said.The assistant coach said he is excited to say the least about the upcoming season.He said he thinks he made the right decision in coming to Auburn."We're all family here," Taylor said.

After battling an inoperable brain tumor since December 2008, legendary swim coach Richard Quick died Wednesday, June 10 at the age of 66.Quick, a six-time United States Olympic Coach, spent six seasons with Auburn, leading the men's team to a National Championship in 2009.
The Auburn Track and Field team just returned from the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with eight All-Americans, seven of whom were freshmen and sophomores.Head coach Ralph Spry explained his role in the team's achievements."I just try to pass on my knowledge," Spry said.
Walk to the edge, take a deep breath and jump.Although this scenario seems uncommon for many people, Dan Mazzaferro faces it almost every day.A member of Auburn's swimming and diving team, Mazzaferro accepted his second invitation to join ESPN The Magazine's 2009 Academic All-District IV at Large First Team on Thursday."The recipients of this award must excel in both academics and athletics," Mazzaferro said.Mazzaferro, a junior majoring in chemistry with a concentration in pre-medicine, said he maintains a 3.94 GPA while dedicating 20 hours a week to practice and conditioning."Time management is key in student athletics," Mazzaferro said.
Four Auburn baseball players will be continuing their baseball careers in the Big Leagues.Joseph Sanders, Scott Shuman, Paul Burnside and Taylor Thompson were picked in days two and three of the MLB draft last week.Sanders, drafted in the 5th round, is going to the Colorado Rockies.
Auburn's secondary has worked this off-season to prepare to stop the SEC's potent offenses next season, while also focusing on personal goals and strengths."We have high expectations for the secondary this year," said defensive back coach Tommy Thigpen.
The Auburn Equestrian team has been one of the most successful teams at the university over the last seven years.Such success is often attributed to the hard work of a head coach like Greg Williams, but Williams is quick to note that coaching is a two-way relationship. "Much of our success comes from the team's ability to buy into the coaching and the program." Williams saidWilliams was born in Paragould, Arkansas.He has been around horses for the better part of his life, competing in rodeos and showcasing horses since he was young.Competing and caring for horses was a family affair in the Williams household."I grew up around horses," Williams said.
Auburn's hard-hitting linebackers are working to adapt to a completely new coaching staff while maintaining their team's expectations."I just want to go out and make plays to help put my team in the best possible circumstances this season," said Craig Stevens, a junior linebacker.
Grit, determination and hard work earned national attention for a freshman baseball player this spring.Casey McElroy, shortstop for Auburn baseball, was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American last Wednesday.
The Auburn softball team completed its season May 17 with a 5-0 loss to Boston University in the NCAA Atlanta Softball Regional.
With an almost entirely new football coaching staff, this season's defensive line has been put through a lot of change.
Karen Hoppa has been the head coach of Auburn's women's soccer team for the last 10 years, and players say she's had a tremendously positive impact on the program."So many things are great about coaching at Auburn, but the best part is the people, and in particular the student athletes," Hoppa said.
The 2008-2009 Women's Golf Team, lead by head coach Kim Evans and assistant coach Courtney Trimble, completed another successful season with a 10th place finish at the NCAA East Regional Championship.The highlight of the team's season was bringing home another SEC Championship for Auburn.
Auburn tennis players have not advanced past the quarterfinals at the NCAA Men's Doubles Tournament in seven years.However, the duo of Alexey Tsyrenov and Tim Puetz moved forward to the semifinals, only to fall 6-4, 6-2 to John-Patrick Smith and Davey Sandgren of the University of Tennessee Sunday.Tsyrenov and Puetz were ranked 10th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association entering the competition and defeated teams from the University of Southern California and the University of Georgia before losing to the third-ranked Smith and Sandgren."We didn't play well in the beginning," Puetz said.
Members of the Auburn swim team participated in the 2009 Charlotte UltraSwim Competition with outstanding results.More than 20 swimmers represented Auburn at the four-day event held May 14-17.Unlike regular swim meets, the UltraSwim requires individual competition in contrast to the usual team participation.2009 Auburn graduate and 2008 Olympian, Fred Bousquet, once again dominated the event.Bousquet not only came in first place in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 21.33 seconds, but he also beat Olympic Gold Medalist, Michael Phelps, in the 100-meter freestyle finals.Phelps came in at 49.04 in the 100-meter freestyle and Bousquet came in at 48.22, giving Bousquet a U.S.
