For as long as I can remember, the SEC has boasted elite gymnastics programs. Teams such as Alabama, Florida, Georgia and LSU were annually in the top 10 and regularly advanced to the NCAA Championships. But Auburn was never in that conversation.
It doesn’t seem like Auburn has a tough decision at quarterback in 2015. Jeremy Johnson is widely projected as the Tigers’ choice to replace the departed Nick Marshall and has been for a while.
After another season of dwelling near the bottom of the SEC defensively in 2014, coach Gus Malzahn knew the defense needed improvement if the Tigers were to compete for another national championship. In perhaps the biggest move in the offseason, Malzahn did just that by hiring former Florida coach Will Muschamp as the new defensive coordinator. The move brought a man who is familiar with both defense and Auburn, as he was previously Auburn’s defensive coordinator from 2006-07. His 3-4 hybrid defensive scheme was not the reason for his dismissal at Florida.

The Tigers, who beat the Vols 4-0 at home in the regular season, won 4-3 in their first match of the SEC tournament. The doubles point went to Auburn after victories on courts two and three.

The recognition came after his series of finishes in the 2015 SEC Championships, which included a first-place finish on the platform, and the NCAA Championships, where he took fifth in the platform and sixth overall on the 3-meter springboard.

Fifth-ranked doubles pair of junior Pleun Burgmans and senior Emily Flickinger defeated Missouri’s court one team 8-5. On court three; senior Jen Pfeifler and sophomore Reka Muller won 8-3 as the Auburn Tigers secured the doubles point. Burgmans won 6-2, 6-1 on court one while the freshman Andie Dikosavljevic won 6-4, 6-4 on the second court. Flickinger beat Missouri’s court three player in a close match that finished 6-3, 7-5. Muller, on court four, beat Missouri’s Brittany Lashway 6-4, 6-0.
