Softball blows out Arkansas to kickoff weekend

Auburn softball matched their last-season win total Friday, by way of a 9-1 mercy rule win over SEC west foe Arkansas. Auburn (42-8) started slow, but saw runs come in bunches in the bottom of the sixth, and had stellar pitching all night from Marcy Harper, who went all six innings, allowing only four hits and notching five strikeouts. “Marcy threw phenomenal,” said head coach Clint Myers.

Reed sentenced to 15 days

Auburn center Trayvon Reed has been sentenced to 15 days in jail for a second-degree misdemeanor assault charge, which he pled guilty to in December, after being arrested in July following an altercation with a police office in College Park, Maryland. In a statement released Wednesday, head coach Bruce Pearl said that “Trayvon understands that he must be held accountable for his actions.” Pearl went on to say that he is proud of how Reed is learning from mistakes and taking advantage of the opportunity he’s been given at Auburn.

Haecker homers in mid-week victory over Florida A&M

Five hitless innings were in the book before Auburn (26-16, 8-11 SEC) pushed two runs across in the sixth inning, and Damon Haecker sealed the win with a home run in the ninth to defeat Florida A&M 3-2 Tuesday, April 21, at Plainsman Park. “We didn't have a lot of energy in the dugout, and I guess that is coming off the emotions of last weekend,” said head coach Sunny Golloway.

Johnson, Starting Team earn 'A' for the day

In front of a crowd of 62,000, Auburn’s A Day game provided a solid prediction of how the fall would unfold for the Tigers, making apparent strides both offensively and on defense. With 225 passing yards and two touchdowns, junior Jeremy Johnson took the spotlight as quarterback for this year’s scrimmage and led the starting team to a 24-14 win. Sean White at QB made for a few short completed passes, but no play action made the top highlights above Johnson.

Jeremy Johnson shines on A-Day

After two seasons of sitting behind Nick Marshall, Jeremy Johnson has had plenty of time to hone his skills behind closed doors. Fans got a chance to see how capable Johnson is of leading the offense in the first half against Arkansas in 2014, when Marshall was suspended, but Johnson was still always going to be the backup. Now as the presumed starter, Johnson will have no trouble at all leading the team if his play during A-Day is any indication. Johnson attempted 22 passes—all in the first half—and connected on 14, for 252 yards and a pair of scores, leading Team Auburn to a 24-14 win.

Roc-solid effort in running back competition

In the race for running back, Saturday’s A Day scrimmage highlighted the likes of Roc Thomas, who carried for 62 yards and made the game’s first touchdown run under quarterback Jeremy Johnson. “I think I did pretty well,” Thomas said.

Former starting QB finds new home

Jonathan Wallace has seen it all during his time on the Plains. From starting quarterback on a 3-9 team in 2012 to a backup on an SEC championship team, Wallace has moved down the line of scrimmage and become a wide receiver in his final year. “It was really a personal decision for me,” Wallace said.
