After 33 years of service, Auburn Fire Chief Lee Lamar died Feb. 18. A press release from the City of Auburn confirmed Lamar died after suffering from an extended illness.

Plans for new high school take shape

Auburn City Schools has been working to solve the issue of future student growth for quite some time. The solution to this problem is coming in the form of the new Auburn High School, which is projected to be complete in April 2017, with classes starting in August 2017.

Auburn Police Division arrested a man for the murder that occurred Saturday, Feb. 14 on Spencer Avenue. Police discovered the man lying in the road near the 600 block of Spencer Avenue suffering from multiple gunshots wounds, according to a news release issued by the Auburn Police Division.

The owner of Southern Dogs Rescue in Auburn was sentenced the morning of Friday, Feb. 13, after she was found guilty of five counts of second-degree cruelty to animals.

"We first contacted the tenants back in the summer and let them know what was happening," Carter said. "We had to build a new building, which is on the corner of the entrance to Kroger."
