The community has many places to help those in need, but they are always looking for more volunteers. Lakeview Baptist Church, the Food Bank of East Alabama and Auburn United Methodist Church are some of the places accepting food donations, especially around Thanksgiving.

Quixotes was packed Nov. 8, even though it was the Saturday night after Auburn lost to Texas A&M 41-38. After the game, fans of both teams found their way to the bars. The line outside Quixotes stretched to the doors of the Gap next door.

Board denies $1 million claim brought by parents of murdered Lauren Burk

A state board denied a $1 million claim made by the parents of murdered student Lauren Burk Wednesday, Nov. 12. Burk's parents, Jim Burk and Viviane Guerchon, filed the claim against Auburn University in February with the Alabama Board of Adjustment alleging the University didn't provide adequate security.

Apartment moratorium public hearing scheduled

Auburn is considering instituting a moratorium that would entail a delay or suspension of the construction of new apartment buildings. A public hearing on the issue is scheduled to take place at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce at 714 E. Glenn Ave. on Monday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Professor develops new type of grass

Edzard Van Santen, professor in the crop soil and environmental science department, has dedicated more than a decade to the growth of a new creeping bentgrass, a grass that has long been used for putting golf green surfaces. According to Van Santen, the new grass, named AU Victory, is a cool-season species with origins in 1999, when putting greens in the southeastern region of the United States suffered in the prolonged heat and humidity of summer, causing the grass to become too thin and resulting in poor golf greens.

Local folk musician sets sights on touring

Marleigh Jones is a slim girl with red hair as fiery as her passion for music. Jones graduated high school in May 2014 and is following her dream of being a folk musician. Her first album, "Jubal," was released in April 2014 through Noise Train, a music blog, under her solo project's name Streetparty in Liverpool.

Board of Trustees approves plan to renovate Samford Park

Thirty descendants of the Toomer's Oaks will be planted in Samford Park in 2016. The Auburn University Board of Trustees met Friday, Nov. 7, and approved a the second phase of a plan to renovate Samford Park including the planting of 30 trees along the sidewalk from Toomer's Corner to Samford Hall.

Students react to midterm elections

Students of both political parties made their voices heard in the elections Tuesday, Nov. 4. Morgan Giddens, chairman of the Auburn College Republicans and senior in accounting, volunteered for Speaker Mike Hubbard, R-Auburn.

Sentencing delayed for University Heights shooter

Sentencing for the University Heights shooter has been delayed until Jan. 7. Desmonte Leonard will now find out if he will spend the rest of his life in prison or be sentenced to death next year, according to an Opelika-Auburn News report.
