Former Auburn swimmer selected as Rhodes Scholar finalist

A former Auburn swimmer has been selected for an opportunity to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Senior biomedical sciences major TJ Leon joined Auburn graduate Azeem Ahmed as the second Auburn student finalist for the Rhodes scholarship this year, the university announced Thursday. As the 2013-14 team captain, Leon was named 2014 SEC Men's Swimming and Diving Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. He also helped the Tigers win the NCAA title in 2013 by swimming on the 200 freestyle relay team. The five-time All-American was an Olympic Trials Qualifier in 2012.

Auburn gets third spot in first CFB Playoff rankings

The first ever College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday night and Auburn took the third spot. Filling out the rest of the top four were Mississippi State at 1, Florida State at 2 and Ole Miss at 4. So, if the season were to end today, Auburn would be participating in this year's inaugural playoff by way of a match up against last year's national championship opponent Florida State.

Malzahn talks Rebel defense on his 49th birthday

Head coach Gus Malzahn talked about a stout Ole Miss defense on his 49th birthday at his weekly press conference Tuesday. It will be the first ever meeting of top-10 teams in Oxford, Mississippi as Auburn (6-1, 3-1 SEC) takes on Ole Miss (7-1, 4-1 SEC) Saturday at 6 p.m. The Rebels' defense has scored almost as many touchdowns as they have allowed this season.

Kala Faulkner named SEC Defensive Player of the Week

Auburn defender Kala Faulkner was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week and was selected to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week following her performances against Mississippi State and Alabama this past weekend. This is the first award for the junior in her career, and the first time since 2012 that an Auburn player has been awarded SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Basketball lands two on top-100 list

SBNation.com released their pre-season top 100 players list Tuesday, and two Auburn players made the list. Coming in at 99 was senior guard K.T. Harrell , who led the Tigers in scoring in elven games last year after transferring from Virginia in 2012 and redshirting that season at Auburn. Harrell averaged 18.3 points per game last year.
